Ukrainian Drone Strikes Oil Refinery in Russia

A drone attack on the Taneko oil refinery in Tatarstan, Russia, has been confirmed by Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation. The refinery, one of the country’s largest oil-processing facilities, was targeted amid an evacuation of workers in Nizhnekamsk.

The strike is believed to be a strategic move aimed at disrupting Russia’s ability to supply fuel to its military forces. Andrii Kovalenko, Head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, emphasized the refinery’s importance, stating that taking out such key targets would severely impact Russia’s war efforts.

Located over 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, the Taneko refinery processes over 16 million tons of oil annually. The facility was previously targeted by a drone attack in spring 2024, causing significant damage to its primary processing unit.
