Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has requested that the United States deploy troops into Ukraine’s peacekeeping force, a move aimed at bolstering its effectiveness and strengthening NATO’s collective defense against Russia. During an interview with Bloomberg’s John Micklethwait in Davos, Zelenskiy emphasized that Europe alone cannot stop Vladimir Putin’s aggressive actions, as his forces could easily penetrate the eastern borders of Ukraine. He hinted at reaching out to Donald Trump ahead of scheduled talks with the Kremlin, suggesting that without U.S. involvement, it would be challenging to deter Russian aggression. Zelenskiy argued that increasing NATO’s capabilities by having a larger permanent presence in Europe would help counter both Russia and the growing influence of non-aligned countries like Turkey within the alliance.
