UMC Denies Measles Exposure Claims at Lubbock Hospital

A hospital in Texas is disputing claims that mothers and newborn babies were exposed to measles at its children’s hospital. NBC News reported that a woman gave birth there without knowing she had the virus, which raised concerns about potential exposure.

However, University Medical Center (UMC) says it took precautions to prevent transmission. A person showing symptoms of measles was isolated in a negative pressure room, and visitors were not allowed in the NICU. The hospital has also implemented a temporary mask protocol for all visitors to the children’s hospital to further protect patients.

Health officials say measles is highly contagious and there have been nearly 300 cases reported in West Texas since January. UMC says it has monitored the situation closely and believes this was an isolated incident with no patient or staff showing signs of exposure.
