The United Nations has called for the release of Hussam Abu Safia, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, who was detained by Israeli forces last week. Slovenia’s ambassador to the UN, Samuel Zbogar, expressed concern over Abu Safia’s detention and urged the ICRC to gain access to detainees in Israeli detention centers.
The UN Security Council has also voiced concern over Israeli attacks on hospitals in Gaza, with several members condemning the targeting of medical personnel, patients, and wounded individuals. France, Pakistan, and Algeria have condemned Israel’s actions, calling for international humanitarian law to be respected and protected.
Meanwhile, the US has urged Hamas to sign a new ceasefire deal that would ensure the release of remaining detainees. However, UN human rights chief Volker Turk has stated that Israel has not provided sufficient evidence to support its claims about Palestinian armed groups using Gaza hospitals for military purposes.
As Israeli attacks on Gaza continue, at least 52 Palestinians have been killed in two days, with hundreds more injured. The situation remains dire, with the UN and international community calling for an end to violence and a ceasefire.
