UN Peacekeeper Injured in Beirut Convoy Attack

A senior United Nations peacekeeper was injured after his convoy came under attack in Beirut, Lebanon. The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) reported that one of its vehicles was set on fire during the incident, which also left several people dead.

The attack occurred as the UN convoy was traveling to the airport when a group of young men carrying yellow flags chased and beat what appeared to be peacekeepers. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with some footage showing individuals kicking and hitting the vehicles.

Unifil has demanded an investigation by Lebanese authorities into the attack, which they have condemned as “outrageous” and “flagrant violations of international law”. The Lebanese government has promised to cooperate with the inquiry and bring those responsible to justice.

The incident has further strained relations between Lebanon and Iran, with supporters of Hezbollah gathering outside Beirut’s airport. A security meeting is scheduled for Saturday in response to the attack, described by the Lebanese Interior Minister as a “crime against peacekeeping forces”.
