UN Peacekeeper Injured in Beirut Convoy Attack

A UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon has condemned an attack on a convoy carrying its personnel to the airport, resulting in the injury of one deputy commander. The attack, which was described as “violent,” has sparked widespread condemnation from regional leaders, including Lebanon’s President and the French government. Authorities have detained over 25 individuals for investigation, and efforts are underway to identify those responsible.

The UN Interim Force (UNIFIL) demanded a full investigation into the incident, while Lebanese authorities promised to bring all perpetrators to justice. France called on the Lebanese security forces to guarantee the safety of peacekeeping personnel and urged judicial authorities to shed light on the attack.

Lebanon’s Interior Minister vowed to work with authorities to identify those responsible for the assault, which was linked to a group of Hezbollah supporters. The US State Department also condemned the attack, stating that it was carried out by individuals affiliated with the Iran-backed militant group.
