UNC Basketball Struggles Against Alabama in ACC/SEC Challenge

UNC basketball suffered its third straight loss, falling to 7-2 Alabama 94-79 in the ACC/SEC Challenge at Dean E. Smith Center. The Tar Heels’ starting lineup change did not alter their fate, as they trailed by double digits in the first half and struggled with turnovers.

Freshman wing Drake Powell replaced Jae’Lyn Withers, but the team continued to struggle with 7 of its 9 turnovers in the first 10 minutes. The Crimson Tide capitalized on these mistakes, taking a 31-18 lead at one point.

RJ Davis’ three-point shooting woes persisted, as he missed 14 of his 16 attempts from beyond the arc. Freshman guard Ian Jackson was a bright spot for the Tar Heels, scoring a season-high 23 points but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

The team’s struggles with turnovers continue, with sophomore point guard Elliot Cadeau logging 4 turnovers in just 24 minutes of play. With four losses before Christmas and a three-game losing streak ahead, UNC will look to regroup and fix its problems before their ACC opener against Georgia Tech on Saturday.
