The University of North Carolina women’s soccer team lost its season opener 2-0 to Tennessee on Thursday evening. Both teams were scoreless through the first half, with Carolina having the first two shots of the game early at the 1:02 and 2:16 marks.
In the second half, Tennessee scored two goals, ultimately leading to a loss for UNC. The Tar Heels had 14 total shots in the match, with nine in the second half, but were unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities.
Goalkeeper Liya Brooks recorded three saves, while Olivia Thomas took four shots with two on goal. Five newcomers made their UNC debut in the starting lineup, including Bradley, Brooks, Devey, Kennedy, and Munson.
The final score was Tennessee 2, North Carolina 0.
