United Airlines Faces Flight Delays Across US Due to Technology Problem

A technology issue has caused significant disruptions at United Airlines, with over 1,000 flights delayed in the US due to a problem with its Unimatic system. The system, which handles flight information for weight and balance, tracking, and timing, was halted on Wednesday evening, causing widespread delays.

United Airlines grounded planes at major airports such as Chicago, Denver, Newark, Houston, and San Francisco, affecting flights destined for these hubs. The airline acknowledged that the outage lasted several hours, with about 35% of its flights delayed and 6% canceled.

Travelers experienced frustration as flight disruptions caused missed connections, rebooking of flights, car rentals, and accommodations. United Airlines apologized on social media and promised to compensate affected passengers in some cases for hotel and other expenses incurred due to the delays.

The cause of the technology problem was unclear, but the airline assured that its top priority is safety and worked with customers to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
