A United Airlines flight with over 200 people on board suffered a dramatic engine failure during its journey from Washington DC to Munich. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was carrying 219 passengers and 11 crew members when it suddenly lost power in one of its engines.
The pilot, who was declared an emergency, radioed air traffic control to report the issue and request guidance on how to safely return to the airport. After a tense exchange with air traffic control, the plane was cleared for landing at Dulles International Airport in Washington DC.
As the plane made its way back to the airport, it encountered another emergency aircraft on the runway, but the pilot managed to navigate through the situation and land safely. The flight, which was originally scheduled to depart at 5:40 p.m., ended up leaving at 6:11 p.m. and returning by 8:49 p.m.
United Airlines has confirmed that the plane experienced a mechanical issue, similar to those experienced by Boeing in recent times following the Air India crash in Ahmedabad. The incident is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
