United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby announced that summer flights at Newark Liberty International Airport will be the cheapest in the airline’s history due to limited flight capacity and a focus on safety. The FAA has reduced arrivals and departures to 28 per hour until June 15, when construction is largely complete.
Kirby attributed the lower prices to the carrier losing bookings and having more seats available. Passengers can expect high on-time performance at Newark compared to other New York area airports this summer. The airline operates nearly 70% of the airport’s flights and will rise to 380 daily flights once the runway construction is finished.
The FAA’s efforts aim to relieve delays caused by construction, staffing challenges, and equipment issues. Acting FAA Administrator Chris Rocheleau stated that the goal is to minimize inconvenience to travelers.
