UnitedHealth Group CEO Andrew Witty addressed his employees on Friday following the assassination of former CEO Brian Thompson in New York City. Thompson was shot multiple times by a masked assailant while attending an investor conference.
Police believe the attack was targeted, and the shooter used a silencer to execute Thompson. The NYPD is still searching for the “smiling assassin.”
Witty criticized the media coverage of the event, calling it “aggressive, inappropriate, and disrespectful.” He urged employees not to engage with the press, advising them to refer inquiries to the company’s own media organization.
In his address, Witty also mentioned the importance of avoiding “unnecessary care,” without elaborating on what this means.
