University of Minnesota Morris Chancellor Steps Down Dec 31

University of Minnesota Morris Chancellor Janet Schrunk Ericksen is leaving her position at the end of December, according to a statement from President Rebecca Cunningham. Ericksen’s leadership and dedication have been appreciated by Cunningham, who praised her for laying a strong foundation for the university.

The western Minnesota campus has faced declining enrollment over the years, with fewer than 1,000 students in attendance this year. However, officials hope new investments, such as increased staffing and marketing efforts, will help boost enrollment. The university’s incoming class is larger by almost 25% this year, with more first-year and transfer students.

Ericksen stated her belief in the importance of the college during an August interview but acknowledged the need to address declining enrollment. She expressed concerns about finding the right size for the campus and managing its decline. In contrast, other four U campuses have seen steady or increasing enrollment over the years.
