A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has found that unsweetened coffee can significantly lower the risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Researchers analyzed data from over 200,000 participants aged 40-69 years and categorized their coffee consumption into four groups: unsweetened, sugar-sweetened, artificially sweetened, and non-coffee drinkers.
The results showed that those who consumed unsweetened coffee had a 29-30% lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s, related dementias, and Parkinson’s diseases compared to non-coffee drinkers. Additionally, they had a 43% lower risk of dying from these conditions. Decaf coffee also demonstrated protective measures, reducing the risk by 34-37% and lowering dying risks by 47%.
The study highlights the importance of dietary choices in maintaining brain health and longevity. Excessive sugar consumption is considered a major red flag, and adding sweeteners to coffee may have no real health benefits.
