Upstate New York Singer Wins “The Voice” For Second Time

Sofronio Vasquez of Utica, N.Y., has won the season 26 finale of NBC’s singing competition show “The Voice”, becoming the second singer from Upstate New York to take home the title. The 31-year-old singer is also the first Asian and Filipino contestant to win the U.S. singing competition.

Vasquez was crowned champion after receiving praise from his coach Michael Bublé, who said, “You are the voice of so many people.” Vasquez’s teammate, Shye, finished in second place. The top five finalists were Sydney Sterlace (third), Danny Joseph (fourth), and Jeremy Beloate (fifth).

Vasquez had a memorable performance history on the show, including impressive renditions of “Unstoppable”, “If I Can Dream”, and his Blind Audition with Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Goin’ Down”. He is now set to receive $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group.

This win marks Vasquez’s first victory on the show, following in the footsteps of Sawyer Fredericks, who won season 8 in 2015.
