Hospitals in Upstate South Carolina are tightening their visitation restrictions starting January 15th due to the increasing number of respiratory illnesses, including flu and COVID-19. Bon Secours St. Francis Health System and Prisma Health will restrict visitors under 16 years old from visiting hospitals.
The decision aims to prioritize patient safety and prevent the spread of illness among patients, staff, and visitors. The hospitals advise against visits for those with recent exposure to a respiratory illness or current symptoms such as fever, cough, and sore throat.
To ensure safety, masks and good hand hygiene practices are encouraged for both staff and visitors. Exceptions may be made by attending physicians and local leadership. Patients’ families can check the full visitor policy on each hospital’s website.
