US aid workers were injured in a Gaza food distribution site attack on Saturday, with two American employees of the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) suffering non-life-threatening injuries. The GHF blamed Hamas for the attack, but did not provide evidence.
In a statement, GhF spokesperson Tammy Bruce accused Hamas terrorists of attacking the aid site, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wished for the “speedy recovery” of the injured workers.
The same day, Israeli airstrikes killed 14 people in Gaza, including seven in one area. The strikes hit tents in the Muwasi area and killed three children, including a Palestinian doctor, according to hospital officials.
Hamas gave a positive response to US-led ceasefire efforts aimed at ending the nearly 21-month conflict. However, Netanyahu’s office stated that any changes Hamas requested would be “unacceptable” to Israel.
The GHF has been criticized for its role in bypassing UN aid, with some accusing it of allowing Israel to use food as a weapon. The organization distributes aid from four sites surrounded by Israeli troops, which the UN and other humanitarian groups have rejected.
Palestinians died while waiting in crowds for aid trucks, with one killed near a GHF distribution site in Rafah. The GHF denied involvement in the killings.
The war in Gaza has caused over 57,000 Palestinian deaths and widespread displacement, with many on the edge of famine. Ceasefire talks are ongoing, but progress appears to be gaining momentum.
