US Air Strikes in Yemen Kill 12 Innocent Civilians

Ammar Mohammed, a 30-year-old civil servant, was just steps away from his family’s home when a US air strike hit the house, killing everyone inside. The explosion flung him aside, leaving him with bruises and cuts.

Mohammed was visiting his wife’s relatives in Sanaa, Yemen, on the evening of March 15, when the air strike occurred. He had planned to break fast with them after a day of fasting during Ramadan. The two-storey house was among several homes that were destroyed or damaged in the raid.

“I was swept away by emotions and thoughts, just like my surroundings,” Mohammed said, describing the scene. “I was confused, scared, grateful, alarmed, happy to have survived, and devastated by what happened to this family.”

The US claim was that they targeted Houthi fighters and military installations, but witnesses say it was a civilian neighborhood being attacked.

Khawla*, who lives nearby, lost her two sons in the attack. She had been cooking dinner when the ground shook and an explosion occurred, sending dust and debris flying everywhere.

“My children were there moments ago, and suddenly I couldn’t see them,” she said, recounting her search for her sons after the attack.

Luckily, Khawla’s sons were found alive, with only minor injuries. However, many other civilians have been killed or injured in the US raids, which have targeted civilian areas.

The US has said that it is targeting Houthi fighters and military installations to force them to stop attacking Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea. But witnesses say it was a civilian neighborhood being attacked.

US air strikes on Yemen have killed at least 53 people and injured nearly 100 others since Donald Trump’s presidency began.
