US Alzheimer’s Cases Surge to Over 7 Million

A new report by the Alzheimer’s Association has revealed a sharp increase in Alzheimer’s cases in the United States, with over 7 million Americans now living with the disease. The report also found that Texas is home to over 459,000 people living with Alzheimer’s.

The surge in cases highlights the growing concern for early detection and treatment of the disease. A survey conducted by the association revealed that 79% of Americans want to know if they have Alzheimer’s before symptoms appear, and nine out of ten people would take a blood test to confirm a diagnosis if it were available.

Experts say that increasing awareness of the disease is key to developing effective treatments and medications. Dr. Sid O’Bryant, leading researcher at UNT Health Science Center Fort Worth, notes that community involvement is crucial for advancing scientific research. He believes that by understanding what people want from potential diagnostic tests, researchers can create better outcomes.

The report also highlights the impact of Alzheimer’s on caregivers, with over 1 million Texans providing unpaid care to a family member suffering from the disease. The Alzheimer’s Association is calling on families and communities to promote education and awareness about the disease.
