US Ambassador to France Charles Kushner has issued a public letter to French President Emmanuel Macron, raising concerns about the alarming rise of antisemitism in the country. In the letter dated August 25, Kushner expressed his deep concern over this issue and urged Macron’s government to take action to address it.
Kushner’s warning comes amid tensions between France and Israel over several diplomatic issues, including France’s plan to recognize the State of Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly in September. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had also written a similar letter to Macron on August 19, criticizing France’s plan and expressing concern about rising antisemitism.
The letter from Kushner marks his first public initiative since arriving in Paris in early July. His move is likely to strain relations between Macron and Trump, given their differing views on several diplomatic issues.
