The US and Iran have agreed to meet again for nuclear talks on May 3, with Omani foreign minister Badr Al-Busaidi confirming the meeting. The latest round of talks, held in Muscat on Saturday, marked the first time the parties discussed technical details of a possible nuclear deal.
According to a senior US official, the talks were “positive and productive,” but noted that “there is still much to do” before a deal can be reached. President Trump expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, saying he thinks “we can make a deal without the attack.”
The talks involved working-level teams from both sides, with White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi leading their respective delegations. The meeting lasted over four hours, with both sides engaging in direct and indirect discussions.
A second round of talks is expected to take place in Rome next week, led by President Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The US administration hopes that these talks will help shift the focus from military strikes to diplomacy in preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb.
