US President Donald Trump has signaled openness to talk to Iran’s new leadership after the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The US and Israel launched a military campaign against Iran, targeting ballistic missile sites, warships, and key military, political, and intelligence targets.
Over 200 people have been killed in the strikes, which began after the death of Khamenei. Iranian leaders vowed revenge, firing missiles at Israel and Gulf Arab countries. The US military said three service members were killed and five others seriously wounded in the conflict.
The attacks show no signs of relenting, with the US and Israel continuing to strike targets across Iran. President Trump said nine Iranian warships had been sunk and the Iranian navy’s headquarters had been “largely destroyed.” The US has offered to help stop Iran’s attacks with Britain, France, and Germany.
The killing of Khamenei creates a leadership vacuum, increasing regional instability. However, Trump signaled openness to dialogue with Iran’s new leadership, saying they wanted to talk and he would be talking to them.
