US Beef Jerky Recalled Due to Undeclared Anchovies

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a recall of beef jerky products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The affected products were produced by Springville Meat & Cold Storage from May 30, 2023 to May 30, 2025.

A total of 15,388 pounds of heat-treated shelf-stable ready-to-eat (RTE) beef jerky/beef snack stick products and voluntarily inspected elk, venison, and buffalo jerky products are being recalled. The problem discovered by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) workers reveals that Worcestershire sauce used in the jerky contained anchovies, despite the establishment previously using the sauce without the ingredient.

Anchovies are a known allergen, and it was not declared on the product label. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products. However, consumers who have purchased the recalled products are warned not to consume them and are advised to dispose of or return them to the place of purchase.

Consumers with food safety questions can contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or email their concerns to [email protected].
