US Church Leads Prayers for Peace After Nigeria Attack

A church in Nigeria was attacked, resulting in the deaths of three United Methodists. The Council of Bishops has issued a statement condemning violence and calling on its members to pray for peace.

Three people were killed at the Bwoi United Methodist Church in Bunkabu, Nigeria. Two young children died from a fire set to their home, while a 28-year-old was shot by gunfire. The incident occurred during the Advent season.

The Council of Bishops has offered condolences to the families of those who died and to the congregation affected. They condemn violence and urge all United Methodists to bear witness to peace through Jesus Christ.

Leaders in Nigeria responded quickly to maintain order, care for the grieving, and work towards the mission of The United Methodist Church. The Council of Bishops is grateful for their efforts.

Bishop Tracy S. Malone, president of the Council of Bishops, has written a statement calling on the church to pray for peace during this difficult time.
