The US government has strongly condemned Hong Kong’s latest move to issue arrest warrants and bounties for overseas activists, including 15 US-based individuals. The action is seen as a form of transnational repression targeting Hong Kongers exercising their fundamental freedoms.
The Hong Kong government’s national security laws are being used to silence Americans on US soil, a violation of core American values such as freedom of speech and political discourse. The US will continue to defend these values, despite Beijing’s 1997 promise to maintain Hong Kong’s autonomy.
