The US has introduced new regulations in an attempt to curb the flow of advanced semiconductors to China. The measures target companies like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and Samsung Electronics Co., requiring them to scrutinize their customers, particularly Chinese firms.
The move comes as part of a broader effort by the Biden administration to strengthen its tech blockade against China. Despite previous efforts, advanced semiconductors have still found their way to China and Russia, including a recent incident where TSMC-made chips were diverted to Huawei Technologies Co., a blacklisted firm. The new rules aim to prevent similar incidents in the future.
