US Egg Prices Soar Amid Bird Flu Outbreak

President Donald Trump’s campaign pledge to bring down prices on Day One has not aged well, with a recent bird flu outbreak causing egg prices to skyrocket. The latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the average price of a dozen Grade A eggs reached $4.95 in January, surpassing the previous record set two years ago and more than doubling the low of $2.04 recorded in August 2023. This surge is attributed to an ongoing bird flu outbreak, which has increased food costs by roughly two-thirds. The US Department of Agriculture predicts egg prices will rise by 20% this year due to high holiday demand during Easter.
