US Embassy Issues Security Alert for Citizens After Uyghur Deportation

The US Embassy in Bangkok has issued a security alert for its citizens in Thailand following the deportation of 40 Uyghurs to China. The alert comes a day after the deportation, which was widely condemned by Washington.

Similar incidents in the past have led to violent retaliatory attacks, as seen in 2015 when Uyghurs were deported from Thailand. This led to an attack on the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok that killed 20 people and injured 125 others.

Thai authorities claim the Uyghurs returned voluntarily, but Washington says they face genocide in China. Diplomats and security analysts believe the deportation may lead to increased tensions.

The Japanese Embassy has also warned its citizens due to the recent deportation, stating there is no change in risk assessment for Thailand. The Thai government remains silent on the matter.
