US Expresses Concern Over Mozambican Election Irregularities

The US has expressed concern over irregularities in Mozambique’s national elections, citing issues with voting tabulation and transparency during the campaign period. The country’s Constitutional Council announced changes on December 23, sparking concerns from civil society organizations, international observers, and the media.

The US is urging all stakeholders to avoid violence and work together to restore peace and unity. Those responsible for human rights violations, including killings and excessive force, must be held accountable. The country’s citizens deserve free and fair elections that reflect their will.

To secure Mozambique’s future as a multiparty democracy, the US is calling on all parties to commit to serious electoral and institutional reforms.
