US Extends Aircraft Carrier Deployment to Middle East Amid Tensions

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has extended the deployment of aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) to the Middle East, while USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is set to join the region. The move comes as the Trump administration ramps up its response to Yemen-based Houthis.

Truman will stay in US Central Command for another month, with Carl Vinson tasked to make an overlapping presence. The ship movements are part of a growing US military response to the Houthis’ recent resumption of attacks on commercial shipping and US warships.

The Trump administration has recently resumed airstrikes on the Houthis, who have been backed by Iran. Secretary Trump has warned that the Houthis will be “completely annihilated” and called for Iran to stop sending them supplies.

The deployments come as part of a series of naval movements aimed at maintaining regional stability. USS Nimitz (CVN-68) is expected to deploy to the Indo-Pacific next, following pre-deployed workups off the coast of California.
