The US Food and Drug Administration has revoked the authorization of Red No. 3, a cancer-linked food dye used in various foods and medications. The dye, made from petroleum, was removed after a 2022 petition from advocacy groups citing health concerns. It is found in candies, Maraschino cherries, and some medicines, with manufacturers having until January 15, 2027, to remove it from their products.
