US Flights to Experience Residual Delays on Sunday Morning

A NOTAM system outage has caused over 360 flight delays and 59 cancellations across the United States. The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) activated a backup system, but some residual delays are expected.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the primary NOTAM system is experiencing a temporary outage. However, he assured that a contingency plan is in place to support preflight briefings and flight operations.

The FAA has set up a hotline for updates on the system’s status, which will be sent every 30 minutes. This comes after a similar NOTAM outage in January 2023 briefly halted all flights in the US.

A NOTAM system outage alerts pilots to conditions that could affect flight safety, such as runway lights or air shows in nearby airspace. The FAA is investigating the root cause of this incident and will provide further updates.
