One of the country’s largest health food wholesalers, United Natural Foods (UNFI), has been hit with a major cyberattack, causing it to shut down its systems and potentially impacting grocery stores in eastern Iowa. The company, which serves New Pioneer Food Co-op, notified them that they would be unable to send trucks out or accept orders.
As a result, customers may see some shelves being empty of certain products, with alternative brands being stocked instead. However, the co-op plans to adjust its ordering process to include smaller distributors and local growers in order to fill the gaps. This change aims to minimize the disruption to customers and ensure they still have access to their preferred products.
The cyberattack was first discovered last Thursday, and UNFI is currently investigating the incident.
