US Imposes 25% Tariffs on Beer and Aluminum Imports

The Trump administration has announced a significant hike in tariffs on beer and aluminum imports, effective April 4. All beer imports will face a 25% tariff, impacting the $7.5 billion US market. The move also affects empty aluminum cans used in brewing.

This new policy, which supersedes previous changes to aluminum tariffs, targets beer made from malt without specifying subcodes for glass container imports. Mexico remains the top exporter of US beer, accounting for over $6.3 billion last year.

The latest development escalates the global trade war and is expected to fuel price increases. The Commerce Department’s move comes hours before President Trump’s planned announcement of reciprocal tariffs on US trading partners.
