US Judge Orders Trump Administration to Lift Foreign Aid Freeze

A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to lift its three-week funding freeze on US foreign aid. The lawsuit, filed by two health organizations that receive US funding for programs abroad, was brought to court in Washington DC. The judge ruled that the Trump administration’s decision to suspend all foreign aid programs without explaining why was unreasonable.

The Trump administration claimed it needed to conduct a thorough review of each program to determine whether it should be eliminated. However, the judge found this explanation inadequate, as the administration had not provided sufficient justification for the blanket suspension of foreign aid programs.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) was established in 1961 and operates independently of the State Department. The agency’s future is uncertain, with Under Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating that it could be abolished after its reorganization.
