US Manufacturing Meets Hopeful Growth Indicators

The Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing gauge rose nearly a point to 49.3 in December, marking an improvement for the second consecutive month. While still below the critical 50-point threshold, the index is firmer than most economists’ expectations. This uptick suggests that the cloud of decline over the manufacturing sector may be starting to lift, with orders and production also showing signs of increase.
