US Medical Innovation Under Threat After Job Cuts

The US is at risk of losing its edge in medical innovation if the Department of Health and Human Services doesn’t reverse drastic cuts. The recent loss of 10,000 federal health jobs has reduced regulatory capacity. A group of regulators who approve new medicines are among those affected. If Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. doesn’t act, patients may suffer from delayed access to life-saving treatments. Historically, the US trailed Europe in accessing new medications, but a law passed in 1992 changed this by speeding up approval processes and increasing FDA resources with fees from drug companies.
