US Navy F/A-18 Fighter Jet Lost Overboard in Red Sea Incident

A US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet has fallen overboard from the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier while being towed on board, the Navy said in a statement on Monday. The incident occurred after the Truman made a hard turn to evade Houthi fire.

According to officials, one sailor sustained a minor injury and all personnel aboard are accounted for. The injured sailor was in the cockpit of the jet at the time of the incident. The aircraft is currently lost at sea, with an investigation underway.

The USS Truman Carrier Strike Group is deployed in the Middle East and has been targeted by Houthi rebels on several occasions. In February, the Truman collided with a merchant ship near Egypt, while another F/A-18 was shot down by the cruiser USS Gettysburg in December.

US Navy carriers are powerful warships capable of high-speed maneuvers despite their large size. The incident highlights the risks faced by US warships in the region as tensions between the US and Iran-backed Houthi rebels escalate.

The Houthi rebels have threatened to target US warships in retaliation for increased airstrikes on their targets, following the Trump administration’s decision to step up military operations against them. The conflict has resulted in dozens of civilian casualties, with the militant group claiming that US aggression will only lead to further targeting and confrontation.
