US Plans to Deport Migrants with 6-Hour Notice to Uncertain Countries

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has announced plans to deport migrants to countries where they are not citizens and do not speak the language, often with as little as six hours’ notice.

Following a recent Supreme Court ruling, ICE laid out its plan in a memo obtained by The Washington Post. Destinations may include places where diplomats have not guaranteed that immigrants will face torture or persecution.

The Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the plan on Fox News Sunday, stating that it is “incredibly important” to remove certain individuals from the US. According to the new measures, migrants can be deported with 24 hours’ notice, but in urgent cases, that timeline may be reduced to six hours.

The target groups under this plan include immigrants who fear persecution in their home country and those from Cuba and China, where diplomatic ties are poor. The migrants will undergo screening before departure.

However, the White House and ICE did not respond immediately to requests for comment from The Daily Beast.
