US President Donald Trump has announced that the draw for the 2026 men’s World Cup will take place in Washington in December. The tournament, which features 48 nations, will be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This marks a significant increase from the current 32-team format.
The draw, originally scheduled to occur in Las Vegas, has been relocated to the Kennedy Center where Trump is chairman of the performing arts venue. FIFA president Gianni Infantino also attended the announcement, bringing the World Cup trophy with him.
According to Infantino, the event will be broadcast live globally and watched by an estimated one billion viewers. The draw will see the 48 teams divided into 12 groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stages, along with eight third-place teams.
