US banking regulators have relaxed rules on banks’ involvement with cryptocurrency and related activities. The Federal Reserve has withdrawn guidance urging caution when dealing with crypto-asset and stablecoin transactions.
In March, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency also scrapped guidelines under the previous administration that advised banks to be cautious in the space. This move is part of a broader trend towards a more crypto-friendly stance from US regulators.
The Fed’s decision will allow banks to explore new opportunities without strict oversight. Regulators now plan to assess whether new guidance can support innovation, including crypto-asset activities.
