The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has formed a crypto task force, bringing together industry experts and agency officials to provide guidance on regulating digital assets. Led by Commissioner Hester Peirce, the task force aims to find “workable solutions” to regulatory challenges in the industry.
The team includes seasoned SEC staff and advisors with backgrounds in law, policy, and blockchain regulation. Richard Gabbert will serve as chief of staff, while Michael Selig has been appointed chief counsel. Other members include Landon Zinda, Taylor Asher, Veronica Reynolds, and Bernard Nolan, who bring experience in NFTs, crypto-friendly policies, and blockchain-related securities laws.
The task force’s formation comes amid growing pressure for the SEC to clarify its stance on crypto regulation. The agency has shifted away from an enforcement-first approach, instead opting for more collaborative engagements with industry participants. This move is seen as a response to criticism that the previous administration’s approach was too hostile towards the crypto industry.
The composition of the task force suggests a focus on traditional securities law and emerging crypto frameworks. As the group moves forward, it will play a key role in shaping policy recommendations and enforcement priorities in the months ahead.
