US Second Lady to Visit Greenland Amid Trump’s Takeover Plans

US Second Lady Usha Vance is set to visit Greenland this week, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s continued claims that the US should take control of the island. The trip, which will include a delegation from the US and Denmark, aims to promote cultural exchange and learn about Greenlandic heritage.

Trump has repeatedly stated his intention to acquire Greenland, citing strategic national security reasons. However, the Danish government, as well as the people of Greenland, have rejected these claims. Vice President Mike Pence had previously dismissed European concerns, stating that Trump prioritizes American interests over international criticism.

The visit will include events such as the Avannaata Qimussersu, a national dogsled race featuring 37 mushers and 444 dogs. The US delegation’s presence is seen as an opportunity to promote cultural exchange between the two nations.

It is worth noting that the US already has a military base on Greenland, with President Trump Jr. visiting it in January. Trump’s comments on Denmark’s sovereignty over Greenland have sparked criticism from the Danish government and parties in Greenland’s parliament, who issued a joint statement rejecting his remarks.
