The United States and Ukraine have signed a deal granting American access to Ukraine’s vast mineral resources, finalizing a pact months in the making. The agreement, known as the United States-Ukraine Reinvestment Fund, is expected to provide the U.S. with access to rare earth minerals such as titanium and uranium.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal described the deal as “strategic” and “equal and good international,” praising it for providing a measure of assurance about continued American support in Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia.
The move comes at a critical moment, as President Donald Trump has grown increasingly frustrated with both sides. The agreement signals that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine over the long term.
However, negotiations have been rocky, with Western European leaders accusing Russia of stalling in efforts to stop the war. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Ukraine had accepted an unconditional truce only because it was being pushed back on the battlefield.
Meanwhile, the U.N. has reported a significant increase in Ukrainian civilian casualties this year, with 2,641 verified deaths and numerous wounded.
The deal still needs to be ratified by the Ukrainian Parliament before it can take effect, but its signing marks an important development in Ukraine’s efforts to secure continued American support amid ongoing conflict.
