The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that seasonal flu activity is high across most of the United States. According to the CDC’s Weekly Influenza Surveillance Report, many states have been placed in the ‘high’ or ‘very high’ category due to elevated levels of outpatient respiratory illness.
Oregon, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Tennessee are among the states with the highest levels of respiratory illness activity. The CDC estimates that at least 9.1 million illnesses have occurred, with 110,000 hospitalizations for adults, and 4,700 deaths attributed to flu this season.
Additionally, five pediatric deaths associated with seasonal influenza were recently reported, bringing the total to 16 pediatric deaths this flu season. The CDC is also tracking COVID-19 and RSV activity on a weekly basis.
