The United States is investing heavily in quantum computing, a technology that has the potential to revolutionize industries such as artificial intelligence, medicine, and climate change mitigation. The Biden Administration has designated the Mountain West region, centered in Colorado, as one of 12 key American tech hubs.
To accelerate the development of this emerging technology, Quantum Commons, a 70- acre campus, is being built in Arvada, Colorado. This facility will be owned and operated by the Colorado School of Mines and is expected to attract nearly $2 billion in private investment and create 10,000 new jobs.
US officials are concerned that China is investing more heavily in quantum technology and has fallen behind America in this area. However, with the launch of Quantum Commons, the US is poised to regain its position as a global leader in this field.
The campus will feature a 10,000-square-foot building for prototyping and manufacturing, as well as a 17,000-square-foot lab with open access for budding quantum startups. The goal is to turn quantum ideas into quantum products and make it easier for companies to develop and deploy this technology.
