US Senate Approves Trump Nominees with Party Lines

The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee has approved dozens of Donald Trump’s nominees for diplomatic positions, including former national security adviser Michael Waltz as the US ambassador to the UN and Sergio Gor to be ambassador to India. The committee votes were largely along party lines, with Democrats opposing most picks and Republicans approving them nearly unanimously. This comes after months of complaining about slow confirmations by Democrats, which led Republicans to change Senate rules using a “nuclear option” to give themselves more power. The approval tees up consideration by the full Senate, where Trump’s nominees have a good chance of being confirmed due to the Republican majority.
