The US Space Force has released a rare photo of its secretive X-37B space plane in orbit, marking the first-ever public image from this mission. The aircraft was launched on its seventh mission in December 2023 and conducted experiments in a Highly Elliptical Orbit.
According to the US Space Force, the X-37B executed aerobraking maneuvers using minimal fuel, allowing it to safely change its orbit. During its stay in space, the plane conducted radiation effect experiments and tested Space Domain Awareness technologies.
The mission was supported by the Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office and involved collaborations with Boeing and the US Air Force Academy. The X-37B’s previous flight set a new endurance record for the space plane, logging 908 days in orbit.
The release of this photo is an important milestone for the US Space Force as it seeks to expand its capabilities in space operations.
