US stocks surged sharply on Friday, closing out a rough February as investors reassessed recent inflation data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 601.41 points, or 1.4%, to close at 43,840.91. The S&P 500 gained 92.93 points, or 1.6%, finishing at 5,954.50.
Investors evaluated the latest personal-consumption expenditures price index, which matched expectations. However, US stocks still reported a monthly loss due to ongoing concerns about sticky inflation and growth issues. In February, the Dow fell 1.6%, while the S&P 500 saw a 1.4% drop, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 4%. The tech-heavy index snapped its three-month winning streak.
