US airstrikes targeting Yemen’s Houthi rebels have killed at least one person and wounded over a dozen others, according to the rebel group. The strikes, which entered their 10th day, targeted sites across the country, including the capital Sanaa.
The US campaign is part of a larger effort by President Donald Trump to pressure Iran, the Houthis’ main backer. So far, the US has not provided details on the specific targets, but national security adviser Mike Waltz claimed the strikes have “taken out key Houthi leadership”.
The attacks come as tensions between Yemen and Israel remain high, with the Houthis threatening maritime trade. In recent months, the group has launched attacks targeting American warships and merchant vessels.
The US campaign began in response to the Houthis’ threat to target Israeli ships again. The rebels have also targeted aid deliveries to Gaza, raising concerns about humanitarian crises.
